Reading His Mind by Melissa Shirley - Release Day

Blurb:

Lyric Brenner is not your average girl. Her start in life was rough. She hardly speaks to her twin sister. And, oh yeah. She can read minds, dabble in the thoughts of others. On her own since she was sixteen, Lyric learned to use her gift to land a lucrative high dollar job in the court system, protect herself from liars, cheats, and baristas with bad attitudes and, more often than not, amuse herself.

Lyric has never forgotten Jace Laugherty or his kiss. Running into him again seems unlikely. But a little shoe-icide, a crazy ex, and a dinner gathering her whole dysfunctional family together, paves the road to happiness with lopsided cobblestones. Can they find love before they lose each other again?

Excerpt:

As suddenly as he’d become playful, he turned the tables, gazing at me while holding my hand between both of his. “What about you, my little Lyric? Can you see yourself kissing it better?”
Hell, yes, I could. I cleared my throat, blinking away the stars in my eyes. “You’d better stick to the barflies and the bachelorettes, mean boy. Flirting with me is pretty useless.”
“Yeah?”
I nodded, pulling away.
“Why is that?” Jace had never met a challenge he didn’t like, and I’d just issued one by accident. Maybe.
If my hammering heart hadn’t been enough to set me on the run, the mischief written on his face would have had me searching out the nearest exit at warp speed. I hopped off the barstool and swayed, certain my next move would be to hit the floor.
Jace’s arms came around me, and a new kind of dizzy clouded my vision. “Where’re you going?”
“You’re too sexy and too pretty, and I’m weak. I should go before I do something stupid.”
His eyes, the exact color of the most comfy jeans I owned, half closed as he looked into mine. “You can’t say something like that then leave me here alone,” he whispered.

BLURB

Extraordinary midwife, Esi Darfour, is looking to get married.  She’s a master matchmaker but has no luck when it comes to her love life and has yet to find a man worthy of her. Until she has to deal with gorgeous Dr. Adam Quarshie outside of work.

Adam is a player who refuses to get married—ever. His interest lies more in getting her into bed than in having any kind of committed relationship. Esi’s matchmaker instincts warn her to run in the other direction as quickly as possible, but her heart insists she stay…get closer…and see if what they feel for each other can change his mind.

EXCERPT

Enjoy the following excerpt for Destiny Mine:

Her gaze travelled down his muscular body. Unlike many of the other doctors who tended to gain a belly as they grew older and settled into the comforts of married life, Adam Quarshie could overshadow any man in his late twenties. His stomach had remained flat and his muscles strained against his yellow button-down shirt when he moved.

She took her time raking her gaze up his body and to his face. Her gasp of embarrassment stuck in her throat as her eyes met his.

Why did he have to have such an adorable grin? God could’ve at least rotted his teeth to save the hearts of women all over Ghana.

“See something you like, Esi?”

She cleared her throat. “Yes, I do. Your shoes are nice. Where can I get a pair for my brother?”

He chuckled. “My shoes. Hmm. I got them on Oxford Street in Osu.”

“Thanks.”

He moved towards her, and she refused to step back as he crowded her. He smelled amazing, like he was fresh from a shower. She struggled not to move closer or inhale deeper.

“Or I could take you.” His voice came out soft yet had a distinct rumble.

Did the man not know how to be anything but seductive?

If she checked her pulse, she knew it would be way above the normal range. She snorted as she stepped around him and went to the patient’s bedside. “I’m going home. You did a great job.” She tilted her head to view the child’s face cradled in the new mother’s arms then smiled at the newborn’s mother. “You were able to gather the strength to push the baby out. You are a strong woman, Ama.”

The woman ducked her head. “Thank you.”

Esi turned to Adam, not bothering to hide her annoyance. “Are there any other patients you want to see?”

“I’ll come back to do ward rounds later. How about going to Osu?”

“I’d rather…rather….” Fatigue had blocked her brain. Later on in the day, long after it was too late, she’d think of any number of things she could have said to put him in his place.

He raised an eyebrow. Their perfect arch sat over slanted dark brown eyes.
“You’d rather what?”

“Eat a live snail.”

He scrunched his face. “Disgusting. No Osu for you, then. Next time, I’ll ask to take you somewhere that won’t make you prefer eating something raw and slimy over hanging out with me.”

“No such place exists, Quarshie.” They walked, rather, she stalked while he strutted, down the hallway towards the nurse’s station.

“I’m sure there is somewhere, and one day I’m going to take you there.”

She didn’t bother to look at him. “In your dreams.”

He winked. “Always in my dreams.”

Her heart skipped a beat as Sade’s classic song “Smooth Operator” came to mind. She regarded him through narrowed eyes as he headed towards the door. His heartbreaking ways didn’t appeal to her at all. Everyone knew relationships weren’t his thing. She’d never even consider going out on a date with him. She knew too many casualties of his charm. The type of guy who would go to all sorts of lengths to get a woman on his radar. Once he caught and used her, he moved to the next one…or two. After having once dated a womanizer, she wouldn’t subject herself to that kind of man again.

No way. Not her. Never

This is No Joke - D.L. Jackson, Guest Post

Today, I'm turning my blog over to D.L. Jackson for a guest post about a charity near and dear to her heart. Please read, and make difference if you can.

This is no joke.
Every 65 minutes, a military veteran commits suicide.
Today I'm kicking off my three month fund raiser. Please join me. I've provided links to get you started. Please take a moment to read this and share. The more this post is shared, the more eyes will be on it. Because of federal regulations, I can not state I am donating total sales of a product to a particular charity, so I need to be non-specific who I give to. I know, I know, regulations. I will therefore round up my donation up to the nearest whole dollar amount and give a lump sum that is close to what I earned for the quarter. It will not be the "sales" but a sum a little bit more than what I earned and to a charity that won't be named (Just know it's going to help service members, past and present).
I'd like to thank Tara from Fantasia Frog for donating her time and money to create a great banner for this event. Jessica Subject for the upcoming Decadent Publishing Newletter that highlights this event, and Decadent Publishing for tracking and posting updates monthly on how we're doing.

This is no joke.
Every 65 minutes, a military veteran commits suicide.
I'm going to be honest here. Finding Mercy took a lot out of me when I wrote it. I had so much to say and there was no other way I could think to show you what I felt. Finding Mercy is not a warm and fuzzy romance. It is a struggle for one man to learn to love again, himself, and someone else. It is a book about hope, when all seems hopeless. It is a book about choosing to step out of the dark, no matter how impossible it seems.
Combat medics have a dangerous job, and part of that job is dragging wounded off hot battlefields. They have hearts for healing and helping, and because of this, cannot help collecting a few scars of their own, both physically and mentally.
If you haven't read Finding Mercy, I’ll warn you, it probably has one of the most grisly battle scenes I've written. The hero is damaged—searching for peace and a way to start over. He is at a crossroads in his life that many vets face every day. He's in pain and a very dark place. He has a weakness for the bottle, desperate to drown memories he can't forget. For some readers, I've been told, the scenes are hard to stomach. What the hero goes through is too painful to read. I am aware I was pretty brutal to my hero, but I needed to paint a realistic portrait of the face of PTSD in our active duty military and veterans. This story has been called everything from graphically violent to an anti-romance.
So be it. It got your attention.
We cannot erase PTSD or injuries caused in battle by pretending they don't exist. But we can move forward by supporting our military and vets, as they face those crossroads. Here’s a link to some facts about veterans and active duty military featured on PBS, Public Broadcasting System: http://www.pbs.org/coming-back-with-wes-moore/about/facts/
I’d like you to join me in raising some money for a great cause. I’ve asked my publisher to track all sales for this book for the month of April, May and June 2015. I’m not asking for reviews or a bump in the ratings. You don’t even have to like this book, but I hope you do. What I am asking, is that you buy this book April 1st- June 30th 2015, and share the link. It costs $2.99, the price of a cup of coffee. Not a huge chunk of change. We spend more than that on a salad or burger at any given time.
Starting April 1st and running through June 30th, I will donate my total royalties from the sale of Finding Mercy, an erotic military romance, to a charity that helps military and veterans who suffer from PTSD. I have to be non-specific which charity, because of federal regulations. Buy the book, help a service member. It’s that simple. This is about something I strongly believe in. You see, I’m a vet. My husband is a vet. His grandfather served in the Navy in WWII, my father in the Air Force during Vietnam. My mother-in-law is a Marine, and both of my sons are active duty. My oldest is currently on his third deployment. My youngest, a Combat Medic, is preparing for his first.
I’ve seen the face of PTSD. It belongs to our sons and daughters, wives and husbands, fathers and mothers, grandmothers and grandfathers. It is our neighbors, friends and co-workers. It doesn’t discriminate, and it doesn’t just go away. Wounded vets need help.
Help me, help them.
